Guardians of the Eld
The God Tarras created the world, Meridia, as you know it today. The world, however wondrous, was not his first work. It was his last.
In the beginning, when Tarras was alone and young, he crafted from his very being a companion. This being entertained him for a time, but as he aged, he grew bored of his childhood friend, and soon cast it aside.
Once more from his own being, he crafted the gods as you know them. Avandra, Bahamut, Corellon, Erathis, Ioun, Kord, Melora, Moradin, Pelor, The Raven Queen, Sehanine, Asmodeus, Bane, Orcus, Gruumsh, Lolth, Tiamat, Torog, Vecna, and Zehir.
Some of the gods chose to stay with Tarras, who was weak from their creation. These six gods were brothers. Bane and Kord, Bahamut and Tiamat, Pelor and Orcus.
Others chose to strike out together. Corellon, Gruumsh, Moradin, and Lolth departed and created races in the images of themselves, races which were as different as their creators.
Avandra, Erathis, Ioun, Melora, Sehanine, Torog, Zehir, Vecna, and The Raven Queen went their own ways, and chose to remain alone, for the time being.
Tarras was weak, for he gave too much of himself to make the others, and he could not undo their creation, nor would he have wished to. As he ceased to be, those who remained at his side received his gifts. Pelor and Orcus had the powers of Life and Death bestowed upon them. Bahamut and Tiamat received power over Order and Freedom, and Bane and Kord received Honor and Friendship.
His death was the birth of the world.
